Rider–Waite–Smith

The Rider–Waite–Smith, or RWS, is the 1909 deck that shaped most modern tarot.

It was devised by A. E. Waite, illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith, and published by the Rider company. Its great innovation was a picture on every card, including the numbered cards.

Because of that, it became the base for countless other decks, and many beginners learn with it.

Decks described as RWS-based follow its structure and symbols while changing the art.
