Querent

A querent is the person asking the question in a tarot reading. If you are reading for yourself, you are both the reader and the querent. If you are reading for someone else, they are the querent, and the reading is shaped around what they want to explore.

The word comes from a Latin root meaning to seek or ask. In practice, a querent is better thought of as a participant than a recipient: their question, their context, and their reactions all help make sense of the cards.

In readings, the querent’s own wording of the question and their perspective guide how the cards are read, which is why a clear, open question matters so much.
