Arcana

Arcana means “secrets” or “mysteries”, and it is the word used for the two halves of a tarot deck.

The word comes from the Latin arcanum, meaning something hidden or known only to a few. A tarot deck is split into the Major Arcana, which holds the big life themes, and the Minor Arcana, which holds the everyday detail.

You don’t need to see the cards as secrets to be unlocked. Think of them as a language you gradually become fluent in, one card at a time.

In readings, noticing how the two arcana balance can tell you whether a situation is about a bigger turning point or the small daily choices around it.
