Tarot Card Meditations

Meditation is a powerful way to establish a deeper connection with your Tarot cards. It can also be an excellent way to explore the inner world of the Arcana, while also discovering peace and knowledge.

Tarot is an extraordinary tool for meditation. You can use it to help you reach a state of inner calm and explore a card's symbolism ans meansings, uncovering elements and significance that you might not be able to access any other way.

You might think of entering the card through meditation as if it were a window into another world. Reaching a state of calm and serenity, you can immerse yourself in the scenario illustarated on the Arcanum.

There are many ways in which you can explore meditating with Tarot, but the one that we will look at here involves focusing on the images that are depicted on the cards. The process of mediation can be achieved in ten stages.

Ten Stages to Mediation

Stage One

Choose a quiet place where you will not be disturbed and turn off all your electronic devices.

It is not essential, but you can use any of the usual Tarot rituals, such as burning candles or incense or listening to music, to help bring you to a relaxed and peaceful state.

Some people decide not to use such tools, as they prefer to reach a meditative state free of external props. Elements like candles can, however, be a great help in facilitating the onset of mediation.

Stage Two

Sit down in a comfortable position and concentrate on your breathing. Focus on releasing and relaxing with every exhale. Breathe deeply, taking whatever time you need to reach state of deep calm. As you relax, try to quieten your mind.

Don't panic if thoughts come rushing in - this is what thoughts do. Simply notice and acknowledge them, then allow them to drift away. By the same token, any external noise you hear does not need to distract you - just acknowledge it and let it go.

Stage Three

Once you feel ready, begin to shuffle your deck. Should the mind wander, just consciously put these thoughts to one side and return to them at a later time.

Adopting a calm and serene attitude will help you to become more aware of your inner world.

Stage Four

Once the cards are shuffled, select one card from the deck.

You can choose to use the whole pack or just the Major Arcana, depending on your personal preference.

Stage Five

Don't worry if you select an unfamiliar card - the purpose of this exercise is to explore.

Take as much time as you need to absorb the imagery on the card. How does it make you feel? What does it look like? Do you know what you see? Does it remind you of anything?

Stage Six

When you are ready, close your eyes. In your imagination, reconstruct your card in as much detail as possible. You might find yourself adding new details things that are not present in the card. This is normal, useful and positive, so do not judge yourself.

Stage Seven

As you recreate the card in your mind, start to expand upon this image. Use your senses to explore the world of the card. What are the sounds that you hear? Is there music within the card? What scent and smells are present? Are the characters on the card speaking? What are they saying? Are they reacting to something? What are they doing?
